Rare breast Surgery Performed by Dr. Vijay Bansal at Ivy Hospital

February 21, 2008

Ivy Hospital today performed a rare breast conservative surgery (BCS) upon a 34 year old cancer patient. The 6 hour long surgery performed by Dr. Vijay Bansalremoved the breast cancer while retaining the breast of the patient by implanting tissue from the back with utmost precision. The dexterous task ofClick for larger image preserving the breast in terms of reconstructing the right breast was done skillfully.

Sharing details of the first organ preservation surgery in the region, Dr. Bansal said that though such complex surgeries were being conducted worldwide and in reputed medical institutes in the country, yet North India does not have the right kind of expertise in terms of trained surgeons to conduct organ reconstruction.

He said that patients suffering from breast cancer shivered and rejected the whole idea of cancer surgery, which implied breast removal, due to an overwhelming fear of losing the breast. "It's a common syndrome among patients, who are simply bogged down by the sheer thought of Mastectomy or breast removal" said Dr. Bansal.

The patient was then properly counseled to undergo the surgery.
